Position Description
Research will focus on assessing the impact of reclaimed produced water from oil and gas production on plant morpho-physiology and nutritive value and soil health. The successful candidate will assess the viability of using treated produced water as an alternative water source for regional forage crops and grasses, with evaluations being performed in greenhouse and field settings. The position requires a broad range of knowledge and skills, including carrying out greenhouse and small-plot research and detail-oriented management of activities.

This is a two-year position with an available start date of May 1, 2025; however, the start date can be flexible. This is a full-time, fully benefits eligible position with a one-year initial appointment, renewable for an additional year contingent on performance. Major/Essential Functions
  • Perform applied research focused on morpho-physiological responses of various forage species and grasses to different water sources in greenhouse and field conditions.
  • Monthly soil and water testing to assess soil health and monitor nutrient load across different trials.
  • Active involvement in data analysis and interpretation, generation of peer-reviewed publications, and development of proposals related to forage systems.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member, manage research logistics, and supervise field/lab personnel.
  • Ability to prepare detailed monthly status reports and updates for the funding agency.


Required Qualifications
PhD in area of project specialization. Knowledge of modern research practices, the methods, resources, and standards thereof. Ability to organize work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives and exercise independent judgment based on an understanding of organizational policies and activities. Ability to integrate resources, policies, and information for the determination of procedures, solutions and other outcomes. Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with other employees and the public. Ability to plan and allocate the workload of employees, providing direct training and supervision as needed.

Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD in Agronomy, Crop Science, or closely related field.
  • Ability to establish and maintain greenhouse and small plot forage research.
  • Demonstrated experience in plant physiology or crop science.
  • Hard working and driven individual.
  • Capacity to perform field work in a hot, arid region.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Valid U.S. driver's license.
