Job Description
This position provides field support for the research, education, and outreach mission of the UT AgResearch and Education Center at Milan (REC-Milan) in Milan, TN. The mission involves conducting agronomic research with the crops grown in west Tennessee including corn, cotton, soybeans, wheat, and others. REC-Milan supports one Center Director, three Research Associates, and 6-7 support staff.

Responsibilities

Assistance with implementation of agricultural research experiments on crops grown in west TN
Accurate and up-to-date record-keeping and data collection associated with agricultural research experiments
Operation, calibration and maintenance of large and small agricultural equipment under precise research conditions
Production of rotational crops
Maintenance and upkeep of facilities, grounds, buildings and equipment associated with Center
Assistance with planning and implementation of the Milan No-Till Field Day and other field days and special events.
Performing other duties as assigned

Qualifications
Required Qualifications

Education:
- High School diploma or GED
Experience:
- Experience with safe and efficient operation of farm equipment
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Valid driver's license - must be able to obtain Class B CDL (commercial driver's license) within 60 days of employment
- Ability to obtain Private or Commercial Pesticide Applicator Certification within 60 days of employment
- Skills including welding, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and/or repair and maintenance of vehicles and farm equipment
- Team player with effective communication skills
- Ability to perform physical work in various environments/weather conditions including extreme heat and cold
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs,

Preferred Qualifications

Experience:
- 3 years row crop farm or agricultural experience.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Experience with GIS based systems for planting, spraying, fertilizing and/or harvesting
- Ability to follow instructions
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team as needed
- Attention to detail and accuracy

Work Location: UT AgResearch and Education Center at Milan, Milan TN. Position is onsite.

Compensation and Benefits

Anticipated hiring range: $16-18/hr

THE CENTER: The Research and Education Center at Milan (RECM) is an 884-acre field laboratory that supports the research, teaching and outreach activities of faculty, research associates and graduate students of The University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture. The RECM is one of ten research and education centers located throughout the state in The University of Tennessee AgResearch system. Research efforts currently underway at the RECM: weed, insect and disease control and management; corn, cotton, soybean, and wheat variety testing and development; new/alternative crop establishment, production and management strategies; precision agriculture work including variable rate applications of fertilizers, seed, and growth regulators; irrigation; fertilizer management; conservation tillage and more. The RECM contains approximately 625 tillable acres along with a modern office building, shop and equipment storage, three overhead irrigation systems and weather station.
