Position Description
Performs specialized Post Doctoral work in the planning, conducting and/or supervision of original research. Responsible for participating in a research project associated with PhD studies and the interpretation of the results of publication. Work is performed under supervision of graduate faculty members with evaluation based on accomplishment of assigned objectives and overall effectiveness of project. May supervise research and student assistants.

Major/Essential Functions
Chen Research Group in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Texas Tech University is seeking a motivated and independent research associate to work on a project to develop graduate-level educational materials on electrolyte thermodynamics.

This research will advance knowledge about electrolyte thermodynamics and thermodynamic models for use in process simulators for industrial applications. The specific goals are 1) to summarize the state-of-the-art in electrolyte thermodynamics and their industrial applications, 2) to develop graduate-level educational materials for electrolyte thermodynamics and practical examples in how to develop thermodynamic models for electrolyte solutions with chemical process simulators, and 3) to propose new research directions for electrolyte thermodynamics. Expertise in technical writing, chemical process simulation, and industrial process development for processes involving electrolytes is a significant plus.

The successful candidate is expected to actively discuss project progress with the PI, attend conferences to present his/her research, publish high-quality articles, and participate in securing grants. Other responsibilities may include mentoring new graduate students, assisting with graduate students' manuscripts, and leading a small group of graduate and undergraduate students.

Required Qualifications
PhD in area of project specialization. Knowledge of modern research practices, the methods, resources, and standards thereof. Ability to organize work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives and exercise independent judgment based on an understanding of organizational policies and activities. Ability to integrate resources, policies, and information for the determination of procedures, solutions and other outcomes. Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with other employees and the public. Ability to plan and allocate the workload of employees, providing direct training and supervision as needed.

Preferred Qualifications
Industrial experience in modeling and simulation of chemical processes involving electrolytes. The applicant need to have extensive research experiences and publications in electrolyte thermodynamics for process simulation. As well as knowledge in chemical engineering principles, electrolyte thermodynamics, chemical process simulation and technical writing.
