About the Opportunity
JOB SUMMARY
The Institute for Health Equity and Social Justice Research and the Center for Health Policy and Law, both at Northeastern University, is hiring for a full-time Research Scientist for a one-year Fellowship, with possible renewal, beginning in January 2025, to contribute to our ongoing work on the Salus Populi program. Salus Populi: Educating the Judiciary About the Social Determinants of Health is a project that seeks to provide guidance and training to judges and lawyers on the impact of the law on the social determinants of health. The Research Scientist will work closely with the Salus Populi leadership team, Professors Alisa Lincoln and Wendy Parmet, along with others on the Salus Populi team, Northeastern University Public Evaluation Lab (NU-PEL) team and Prof. Katherine Hazen, to further develop the curriculum to be provided to judges and lawyers, will serve as an instructor in the trainings, and will help to develop and implement a robust evaluation of the impact of the Salus Populi training on the knowledge and practice of participants. In addition, the Research Scientist will develop and execute legal research strategies using different legal databases (Lexis, Westlaw, Heinonline, etc.,) on a range of legal topics that may implicate the SDOH and health equity. The Research Scientist will supervise undergraduate Health Equity Interns, law students, and doctoral students; as well as participate in dissemination activities including the writing of manuscripts and presentations, write legal memos, white papers and academic articles relating to the relationship between the law and the SDOH.
QUALIFICATIONS
- JD or Doctoral degree in a health or law related field required.
- Minimum of 2 years of related experience including supervising staff and student research teams, and developing curriculum.
- Experience with evaluation research.
