The National Emerging Infectious Disease Laboratories at Boston University (NEIDL) is transforming high-consequence infectious disease research to create life-saving medicines, within a vibrant life sciences community committed to global impact. The Research Program Project Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of any NEIDL U19, P01, or other program project initiatives. They will ensure the successful proposal development, submission and post award management including but not limited to planning, implementation and evaluation of the award initiatives. This position is critical to the success to obtaining collaborative program project sponsored awards with the NEIDL which will collaborate with key NEIDL Principal Investigators, investigators within the BU community as well as collaborators at outside institutions.

Job Duties

Project Planning & Implementation:

  • Oversee Investigators in the development and execution of a detailed project plan, including goals, objectives, timelines, and budget allocation.
  • Coordinate program requirements and ensure alignment with goals and strategies.
  • Collaborate with internal/external teams and program sponsor to design and deliver high-quality programming.
  • Coordinate logistics, resources, and support required program implementation.


Program Management:
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of program projects, including scheduling, assignment of responsibilities, and effective communication with investigative teams.
  • Monitor program process, ensure milestones and deadlines are met and that investigative teams are engaged/supported through their involvement.
  • Anticipate and resolve issues and/or bottlenecks and make adjustments throughout the entire program lifespan to ensure program success and prime principal investigator satisfaction.
  • Maintain regular communication with prime principal investigator, team groups and sponsor; providing updates on progress, challenges and accomplishments.


Evaluation and Reporting:
  • Monitor and evaluate to assess effectiveness, impact and outcome of program project initiatives.
  • Collect and analyze data related to investigator experience, program outcomes, and sponsor feedback to inform program improvements and decision-making.
  • Coordinate program project team preparation of periodic reports and presentations summarizing program progress, key findings, and recommendations for program enhancements.
  • Ensure all final reports and requirements, financial and written/scientific, are completed and submitted to program project sponsor.
  • Ensure compliance with reporting requirements from sponsor, regulators (if required), or other authorities, as applicable.

Required Skills
  • Master's degree and 8+ years of experience. PhD preferred.
  • This position requires a special niche of skills; a combination of scientific knowledge, grantsmanship experience and both pre-/post-award management from federally sponsored agencies.
  • Scientific knowledge in microbiology, immunology and infectious diseases is preferred.
