The primary duties of this full time position will be to perform molecular biology, biochemistry and/or structural biology, and cell culture experiments designed to elucidate the molecular mechanisms of pre-mRNA splicing and its role in disease, as well as the structure and function of the Six1/Eya transcriptional complex for anti-cancer drug design.

Key responsibilities:
  • Molecular biology experiments including sub-cloning and mutagenesis
  • Protein and/or RNA expression and purification
  • Biochemical and biophysical analyses of protein/protein interaction and/or enzyme function
  • Mammalian cell culture experiments
  • Evaluate small molecule compounds in biochemical and cell culture experiments
  • If interested, the PRA can learn to prepare EM grids, collect data and determine the cryo-EM structure of protein or protein-RNA complexes
  • Assistance in basic operation of lab, including preparation of solutions and autoclaving material

This description is a summary only and is describing the general level of work being performed, it is not intended to be all-inclusive. The duties of this position may change from time to time and/or based on business need. We reserve the right to add or delete duties and responsibilities at the discretion of the supervisor and/or hiring authority.

Work Location:

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Why Join Us:

Our department conducts research across a wide biological scale for fundamental scientific understanding with applications to many disease contexts. The overarching goal is to reach a level of molecular insight that helps develop therapeutic approaches to disease.

As biochemists and molecular geneticists, we are amid an unprecedented time of discovery - our conception of the molecular biology of cells is going from the equivalent of grainy black-and-white to high-resolution technicolor. From deciphering the choreography of transcription complexes, chromosomes, and RNA molecules within cells to developing novel approaches to 3D molecular structure determination to understanding how viruses hijack a cell's machinery and alter its metabolome, the researchers in Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics (BMG) are at the forefronts of their fields both conceptually and technologically.

The University of Colorado offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes health insurance, life insurance, retirement plans, tuition benefits, ECO pass, paid time off - vacation, sick, holidays and more.
