Job Summary:

A full-time Research Services Professional position is available in the Department of Pathology at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Center. We are seeking a highly motivated, organized, detail-oriented individual to work in a research laboratory environment conducting breast cancer research on both human and mouse tumors. Responsibilities to be shared with other lab members include ordering supplies, training new employees, hazardous waste management, working with mouse models of breast cancer, surgical manipulations of rodent models, as well as euthanasia and tissue collection from rodents and other general lab management activities. You must be compassionate and willing to work with research animals. You will assist principal investigator, post-doctoral fellows, and graduate students with ongoing research projects.

The successful candidate will participate in ongoing projects investigating the mechanisms underlying signaling transduction pathways that are associated with breast cancer development.

Key Responsibilities:
  • 70% - Mammalian cell culture; RNA and DNA isolation; qRT-PCR, shRNA techniques; protein isolation and immunoprecipitation-western blotting; immunohistochemistry; in situ hybridization; fresh frozen and formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue preparation and sectioning; and other histological/molecular/cellular biology techniques required for the research projects.
  • 10% - Responsible for ordering supplies, maintaining chemical inventory, lab safety documents, receiving and shipping biological specimens, and participating in training of fellows or students.
  • 10% - Help maintain clean and orderly lab via washing and autoclaving dishes and maintain common lab solutions.
  • 10% - May also be required to assist with mouse surgery, tail snip genotyping and/or necropsy.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Entry:
  • Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field

Intermediate:
  • Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field
  • One (1) year professional level research experience

Senior:
  • Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field
  • Two (2) years professional level research experience

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

Entry:
  • Master's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field
  • Prior experience or background within an experimental or wet lab

Intermediate:
  • Master's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field
  • Two (2) years of experience in an experimental or wet laboratory

Senior:
  • Master's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field
  • Three (3) years of experience in an experimental or wet laboratory

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, self-motivated, and be able to work independently or as a team-worker.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excell, Word, and Power Point) is required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and be able to work well with other individuals, as well as within group research settings.
  • Must be punctual and able to meet assigned deadlines.
  • Must participate in weekly lab meeting with the principle investigator and/or supervisor and maintain a detailed and updated lab notebook

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as:

Entry:

$45,000-$57,240

Intermediate:

$48,970-$62,290

Senior:

$52,941-$67,341

The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation depending on the level.
